Tooth Colored Fillings
Cavities have become a public health crisis throughout the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claim that 91 percent of U.S. adults have had at least one cavity. Twenty-seven percent of those people have never had their cavity treated.
Fortunately, people who have a cavity or two can easily schedule an appointment at NEPA Dental for convenient treatment. Our preferred method for treating cavities is using tooth colored fillings. We only use high-quality materials for our fillings, which help strengthen and protect the cavity-afflicted tooth.
Advantages of Tooth Colored Fillings
Colored fillings are a popular option among patients of all ages for a variety of reasons. Three of the most significant advantages of using tooth colored fillings include:
Aesthetics
One of the reasons why patients prefer colored fillings is the fact that they are matched to the color of surrounding natural teeth. As such, it can be nearly impossible for other people to detect the presence of a filling. In most cases, the only ones who know you have fillings are you and your dentist.
Durability
The composite resin used to create tooth colored fillings has been specially formulated to provide superior durability. This essentially restores full functionality to the treated tooth, allowing you to forego any food restrictions. When cared for properly, colored fillings can easily last as long as your natural teeth.
Safety
Patient health and safety is our utmost priority. Composite resin is a much safer alternative compared to the metal fillings of the past as composite fillings do not leak mercury and other harmful substances over time. If you are still using metal fillings, we’d be more than happy to safely remove them and replace them with composite resin fillings.
What to Expect
Our dentist will start by cleaning out the affected tooth to prevent decay and bacteria from being sealed in by the filling. Once your tooth has been thoroughly cleaned, our dentist will fill up the cavity using composite resin. Afterwards, a special light is used to harden the resin within a few seconds. Our dentist will then check if the resin has hardened appropriately.
