Extractions

In most cases, dentists will do everything they can to repair a broken or decayed tooth. Severe cases of damage or decay, however, may require tooth extraction instead. In the event that you require tooth extraction, we can make sure your experience is a comfortable one.

NEPA Dental is proud to offer quick and comfortable tooth extraction services to patients of all ages. We understand that tooth extractions often make people feel uneasy. Our experienced dentists and dental staff are highly trained to help you feel at-home in any of our offices, which help you enjoy a positive experience.

Reasons for Extracting a Tooth

Tooth extractions are usually performed on a tooth that can no longer be save by fillings and the like. Although tooth decay often comes to mind as the cause for the need to have a tooth extracted, there are many other reasons for extracting a tooth. Some of these reasons include:

  • Severe Tooth Decay
  • Significant Chips/Fractures
  • Crowded Teeth
  • Impacted Wisdom Teeth
  • Pre-Orthodontic Treatment
  • and much more

No matter what the case may be, you can be confident that we will never suggest tooth extraction unless you absolutely need it. If you do end up requiring tooth extraction, our dentists are more than happy to explain your procedure in detail, as well as the options available to replace the missing tooth.

What to Expect

On the day of the procedure, your dentist will provide you with local anesthesia. This way, you won’t feel much of anything during the procedure, allowing you to keep yourself relaxed for the duration of the extraction.

Your dentist will then use a series of specialized tools to help extract the tooth in a safe and efficient manner. Once the tooth has been extracted, you will be asked to bite down into a bite pack to help a clot form over the affected gum.

After the procedure, you may be asked to avoid the following to help facilitate proper healing of the wound:

  • Touching the Affected Area
  • Strenuous Activities
  • Vigorous Mouth Rinsing
  • Smoking
