Proper oral hygiene and dental care is necessary to prevent the proliferation of bacteria in the mouth. When oral hygiene and health is neglected or too long, bacteria can find its way below the gum line and cause gum disease. In such cases, you will require periodontal treatment to reverse the problem.
NEPA Dental offers a variety of convenient periodontal services to our patients. Whether you are facing the onset of periodontal disease or fighting a more advanced form of the disease, our dentists are more than capable of helping restore the health of your gums.
What We Offer
We offer general routine dental cleanings and periodontal procedures:
This procedure aims to reduce the “pockets” that bacteria create when eroding gum tissue and bone underneath the gum line. These pockets are a fantastic breeding ground for bacteria, which only serves to make the infection worse and cause it to spread faster. Our dentist can clean out the infection to facilitate gum regrowth and apply an antimicrobial treatment to help prevent further infection.
Regenerative procedures involve the use of a bone graft to help regenerate the bone and gum tissue an infection may have caused. Once the bone graft is completed, follow-up treatments using tissue-stimulating proteins are used to heal gum tissue. Both of these procedures allows the gums to reattach to the tooth and prevent tooth loss.
Soft Tissue Grafts
Soft tissue grafts primarily work in the same way as bone grafts. The key difference here is that the procedure is used when a tooth’s root has been exposed due to gum loss. In the beginning, your dentist will clean out the infection. Your dentist will then collect soft tissue from other areas of the mouth, such as the palate, and graft it over the exposed tooth root.
This procedure is often used to help prepare teeth that have undergone periodontal treatment for upcoming cosmetic treatment. Crown lengthening is often performed when there isn’t enough tooth sticking out above the gum to support a filling or crown. This is addressed by removing a safe amount of gum tissue or bone tissue to create more exposed tooth.
